Luís Delgado MD, PhD, is Associate Professor of Immunology and Head, Basic & Clinical Immunology Unit, Department of Pathology, Faculdade de Medicina, Universidade do Porto (FMUP), where he is involved in pre-graduate teaching (Basic and Clinical Immunology to the Medical and Nutrition courses), post-graduate teaching (Laboratory immunology to Immunoallergology and Clinical Pathology residents), and research. The department also integrates an Immunology Lab, functioning as a diagnostic laboratory in immunology at Hospital S.João, a large university hospital in Porto. He is also Medical Consultant in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the Immunoallergology Service, Hospital S.João, and at Instituto Cuf Porto, Portugal. He graduated in Medicine, at Universidade do Porto, in 1978 and, since 1996, has a PhD degree in Immunology from the same university. In 1991 he finished his medical specialty in Allergy, at Hospital de S.João, Porto, and from 1999-2007 he served as a member of executive board of SPAIC, the Portuguese Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and as president of SPAIC board of officers (2014-16). In 2000/02 he chaired the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) Interest Group on Allergy, Asthma & Sports. From 2003-2011 he acted as a member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Officers of the EAACI (member at large 2003/4; 3rd vice-president 2005/6; vice-president education & specialty 2007/8, 2009/10). He is the recipient of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology Charles Blackley Award 2015, for promotion of the specialty. Since 2006, he is an international Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and, between 2004/9, served as member of the AAAA&I Sports Medicine Committee. Since 2013, he is an integrated researcher at Cintesis (Centro de Investigação em Tecnologias e Serviços de Saúde, FMUP), now within the RISE-Health, Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto. His main research areas are ocular allergy, severe cutaneous drug reactions, occupational and interstitial lung diseasehe, allergy and asthma in sports practice, exercise immunology, and urban environment and allergy .
