Luís Marques got his PhD in Physics from Instituto Superior Técnico - Technical University of Lisbon - Portugal and Université Paris XI/Orsay - France, in 2005, in the field of Plasma Physics. He is the head of the Computational Physics Lab at the centre of Physics of University of Minho (CFUM), where he develops his research activity with emphasis on materials simulation, modelling of plasma sources with applications in materials processing, development of new devices for energy and biomedical applications. His expertise also extends to High Performance computing, being responsible for the implementation and management of the Computer Clusters at CFUM. His main motivation is linking fundamental and applied research in the development of new material concepts and processing technologies, design of new devices, using modeling/simulation techniques, such as - Density Functional Theory, Molecular dynamics, Particle In Cell/Monte-carlo, Dissipative Particle Dynamics, finite difference and finite volume/element methods. He has 70 papers published in international ISI journals (Researcherid:A-5622-2013; ScopusId=36550651400), 2 book chapter, and about 900 citations (h-index 18). He participated in more than 40 national and international events, such as conferences, workshops , and presented 20 oral and more than 100 poster presentations. He has 6 Pos-doc supervisions, 2 PhD supervision completed, 3 PhD supervisions ongoing, and 13 MSc students. He participated in evaluating scientific committees of 6 PhDs and 11 Msc students thesis. He has been involved in the research team of 20 R&D national projects, PI/co-PI of 6, and 1 H2020 Marie-Curie ITN project. He also participated in the organization 4 International Scientific Conferences.
