Inês Correia-Sá is Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Consultant in a Tertiary Referral Hospital in Porto, Portugal. She is also an Invited Professor of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto and, in the past, has also taught Pharmacology and Therapeutics in the same University. Parallelly, she has conducted some research in both departments, with a focus on Skin Inflammation, Wound Healing and Hypertrophic Scars. As a clinical plastic surgeon and basic science researcher, Correia-Sá had the opportunity to develop a translational research project, involving surgical patients and primary skin cell cultures, to study the endocannabinoid system, during wound healing, in the context of the formation of hypertrophic scars. That research project was awarded with two grants (Bolsa D. Manuel de Mello – José de Mello Saúde Grant and Fundação para a Ciência e Técnologia Grant), and resulted in four full peer-reviewed publications in indexed international journals, and three abstract publications. The works developed was presented in five national congresses and 4 international meetings (USA, UK and Spain). This work was also the main topic of her PhD thesis, presented in 2020 for the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, and entitled “The Endocannabinoid System in the Pathophysiology of Skin Fibrosis”. Now, with the acquired knowledge, our group of work is aiming to focus on the effect of Cannabidiol on skin inflammation and wound healing, to develop the present project.
