Bárbara Joana Martins Leite Ferreira

Bárbara Leite Ferreira (BJM Leite Ferreira) is currently Junior Researcher at CICECO and Department of Chemistry of University of Aveiro (DQUA). Received her MSc and PhD degrees in Materials Engineering and Biomedical Engineering from University of Aveiro, in 2002 and 2011, respectively. She is author of 20 SCI publications (+2 under review), 2 book chapters, and more than 45 communications presented in national and international Conferences/Meetings. During the last 5 years has been strongly committed with student's supervision: 3 PhD students (ongoing), 7 MSc (2 ongoing), and several BSc students (20 concluded, 5 ongoing). Since 2008 is referee of several international reputable international journals, namely Mat. Sci. Eng. C; Journal Biomed. Mater. Res. Part B; Annals of Biomed. Eng.; ACS Biomaterials; Crystal Growth and Design; Polymer Composites; Non-Crystal Solids; Journal of Coordination Chemistry; IJMS; Materials among others. Until present was member of the Technical Committee and of the Organizing Board of 2 International and 2 National Conferences, respectively. She was also main jury of 10 Master theses and several bachelor final reports. Since 2021 is teacher of practical and theoric practical (TP) chemistry classes at DQUA, being evaluated with an excellent level by the internal Quality Management System. Also participates, since 2019, as invited speaker in several classes and workshops at DQUA and DEMAC (such as Tissue Engineering and Therapeutic Delivery, integrated at Master Program in Biomedical Materials and Devices). She also was the Academic Editor (invited) of 2 Special Issues promoted by indexed journals Bioengineering and Polymers (MDPI) and is coordinator of the Inorganic Chemistry Lab activities integrated in University of Aveiro summer school (Academia de Verão). Her main research interests are: (I) Production of nanostructured platforms for drug delivery applications (inorganic nanoparticles, biopolymeric nanosystems, hybrid materials); (II) Synthesis and characterization of new metal-based compounds (metallodrugs) and evaluation of their biological/pharmacological properties; (III) in vitro release and cytotoxic studies; (IV) DNA and protein binding studies.
