Susana Alexandra Barbosa has a multidisciplinary background, with a PhD in Surveying Engineering in 2006 by the University of Porto, an MSc in Computational methods in Science and Engineering in 2000, and a First Degree in Physics & Applied mathematics (Astronomy) in 1998. She is a contracted researcher at Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores Tecnologia e Ciência (INESC TEC) working at the interface of data science and earth system science, with emphasis on time series analysis of environmental data. Her research focuses on concepts and methods relevant for the assessment and quantification of climate change - trends, scaling/long-range dependence, space-time variability, changes in seasonality, extreme events - applied to the study of sea level and climate variations, from both in-situ and satellite data. Her research interests also include natural radioactivity in the context of space-earth interactions and in terms of applications of radon as a geophysical proxy and tracer of dynamic processes in the Earth's system. She participated as a researcher in 7 projects and as Principal investigator / Co-Principal Investigator in 5 projects. She lead 3 field campaigns for collection of scientific data. Susana Barbosa is an Open Science enthusiast, having made publicly available 2 software R-packages for specialised time series methods. She has also made available in public repositories all the data collected in field campaigns, having published 16 datasets, often including not only the raw data but also computational notebooks facilitating its re(usage) and fostering reproducibility. She edited a book on "Nonlinear Time Series Analysis in the Geosciences - Applications in Climatology, Geodynamics and Solar-Terrestrial Physics", 3 journal issues on data analysis topics, and 1 journal issue on radon applications. She published 3 book chapters, 10 conference papers, and 55 articles in international peer-reviewed journals. Susana Barbosa is very keen on scientific outreach and dissemination of scientific knowledge, having participated in 6 events targeting the general public, authored 4 magazine articles disseminating scientific concepts to the public, and being active in several press and media channels spreading scientific ideas to the young and general public. Her service to the scientific community included organising 18 scientific events, serving as referee of more than 95 manuscripts, serving as chair of the EGU Christiaan Huygens Medal Committee, and serving as expert evaluator in 18 evaluation committees for 11 international funding institutions.
