Sónia Andreia Oliveira Santos was born in Aveiro(Portugal) in 1983. She was graduated in Chemical Engineering at Nova University of Lisbon in 2006. In the same year she did a trainee (6 months) at Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands. In 2012 she got her PhD in Chemistry by the University of Aveiro (UA), on the detailed characterisation of the phenolic fraction of forest by-products. In 2013, she started a post-doctoral project at CICECO - Aveiro Institute of Materials, developing her work on the bioprospection of bioactive compounds from macroalgae, and currently, she is a researcher at the same institute. Her research activity has been focused on the bioprospection of natural components, particularly in their characterisation, development of green extraction methodologies (Supercritical Fluid Extraction, High-Pressure Extraction, Microwave assisted Extraction, Extraction with eutectic solvents (ES)) and in their upgrading for high value applications (e.g. antimicrobial agents in drug delivery, reducing/stabilizing agents in the green synthesis of nanoparticles, or UV-blockers in active packaging). She published 80 SCI papers, h-index of 30 and +2700 citations (without self-citations, SCOPUS). 60% of total citations were in the last 3 years. Besides, SS published 13 invited SCI papers, 4 review papers and 2 journal covers. The scientific network and internationalisation of SSantos is supported by publications with more than 170 authors with diverse national and international affiliations. SSantos has participated as team member in 4 European and 4 national projects. She was also evaluator and rapporteur of postdoc positions at SEAS/University of Bergen, funded by EUs Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action. SSantos already supervised 5 BSc, 7 MSc and 3 PhD International students. Her current research team includes 5 PhD students. She has also been contributing to the dissemination & promotion of scientific knowledge by the participation in the UA initiatives dedicated to the scientific community and public understanding of science, e.g., Research Day, UA Open Campus, TECHDAYS. SS organised 2 and participated in 7 events. She has received 8 awards and/or honours.
