Orlando Frazão is a specialist in optoelectronics and electronics within the field of Physics Engineering. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Aveiro, Portugal, and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Porto, focusing on optical fiber sensors utilizing interferometry and non-linear effects. In 1997-1998, Orlando Frazão contributed to the European Project UPGRADE at the Institute of Telecommunications, Aveiro, working on the High Bitrate 1300nm Upgrade of the European Standard Single Mode Network. Currently, Orlando Frazão is a Senior Researcher at the Centre of Applied Photonics at INESC TEC, leading the optical fiber sensor group dedicated to physical measurements. He also served as an invited Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP) from 2013 to 2020. His research interests cover optical fiber sensors, lasers, and optical communications, with a focus on national and international projects. Dr. Frazão actively contributes to bilateral collaborations with institutions in France, Spain, and Brazil. Beyond research, he plays an active role in organizing events, holding positions such as chair, co-chair, and committee member in conferences like EOSAM, EWOFS, RIAO, ETOP, and AOP, supported by major scientific organizations in optics. He is a delegate of scientific organizations such as SPOF and ICO. Orlando Frazão boasts an extensive scholarly output with over 480 peer-reviewed journal publications, international and national conference proceedings, and authorship of seven patents. His expertise is recognized through his role as a reviewer for reputable international journals. He has received four awards and is a senior member of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE).
