Graduated in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, in 2009, by the Superior School of Health, Polytechnic Institute of Porto, and a with a master's degree in Bioengineering, with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology, in 2015, by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. She concluded her PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biotechnology Applied to Health Sciences (BiotechHealth), in 2020, by the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of Abel Salazar, University of Porto, dedicating the last years to the discovery and development of new drugs for anticancer targeted therapy. She attended several scientific scientific courses and conducted scientific activity in different national (Minho, Porto, Coimbra, and Lisboa) and international (Finland, Italy, and Czech Republic) research groups. Her academic and scientific activity resulted in 14 publications (5 as first author) in international journals, indexed with peer review, 2 conference papers, 1 book chapter, oral and poster communications at national and international scientific meetings/conferences, and an international patent application. She received 4 awards, including the research award in the 1st National Meeting of Young Researchers in Oncology, in 2019, promoted by the Portuguese League Against Cancer. She actively participated in the organization of scientific events/conferences and was a member of the scientific committee of the advanced course "Model organisms in human diseases: the right organism for a specific issue", in 2019, at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto. Alongside her research activities, Helena has also pursued training in several transferable skills, namely mentoring, communication, marketing, project management, and entrepreneurship. She was also involved in the supervision of undergraduate and master students, in addition to other pedagogical activities at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto, namely as an invited lecturer in the curricular unit Industrial Microbiology, in 2017 and 2020, and in the Summer School program "Interdisciplinary Approaches to Control Infectious Diseases and Cancer", in 2020. Currently, Helena is a post-doc scientist at the spin-off company Gepeceron of the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium.
