Joana Maia started her professional activity in 2011 as a Civil Design Engineer, becoming a scientific researcher, in the same year, at CONSTRUCT-FEUP in several scientific research projects. She concluded in April 2019 the PhD in Civil Engineering with the "Cum Laude" distinction in the durability of thermal wall façade systems. She is the author of 20 scientific papers (indexed in SCIE, SCOPUS and Web of Science). She is also an author of more than 30 publications in international and national congress proceedings. In CESBP 2016, Joana Maia was awarded as one of the best 16 Papers written by postdoc or Doctoral candidates granted by the Excellence Initiative of the TU Dresden. She won the Honorable Mention of the William Bonfield Prize for Best Review Paper published in the Journal of Materials Science - 2021. She recently won the competitive Buildings 2024 Travel Award. She was a Guest Lecturer at the Technology and Science National Week 2021 in Petrolina, Brazil. She is a reviewer of international peer-reviewed journal papers. She has been involved in the organising committee of 7 international events and Special Issues and Thematic Sessions. She is a member of journal advisory panels. She teaches and supervises Bachelor and Master Dissertations in Civil Engineering. She was awarded 5 Erasmus+ Staff Mobility Flow. She is an Integrated Member of CONSTRUCT-FEUP and an Invited Assistant Professor in the Civil Department, Construction Section of FEUP. She recently won a research contract on the very competitive international Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus - 6th Edition, 1st position in the Civil Engineering Scientific Area with BInCircular - Building façades as Innovative Circular solutions from a durability perspective project.
