Giusi Piccirillo (Italy, 1991) received her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry (2013) and her Master's degree in Chemical Science (2016) with the final thesis titled "Synthesis and photo-physical properties of iridium (III) complexes with pyridophenxazinone (PPHs) ligands", both from the University of Naples "Federico II". At the end of her graduate studies, she worked on a research project with Prof. M. Catauro of the Department of Engineering of the Second University of Naples. Moreover, she passed the Italian national examination for the Order of Chemists and attended various courses for instance the course for the specialist use of the Shimadzu GCMS-TQ8040 and received the certification of the high frequency of "Quality Assurance & GMP Compliance" for pharmaceutical industry purposes. Furthermore, she worked as a teaching assistant for Physical Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. P. Del Vecchio. Before starting her PhD, she was a research member at the Catalysis and Fine Chemistry Laboratory and her research activity was focused on the management of compounds under an inert atmosphere using Schlenk techniques, vacuum lines, handling reactors and high-pressure systems. She finished her PhD (January 2023) in the CATSUS (Catalysis and Sustainability) PhD programme (PD/BD/135532/2018-FCT) at the Catalysis and Fine Chemistry Laboratory - Medicinal Chemistry Group of the Coimbra Chemistry Centre (Chemistry Department, University of Coimbra). Her PhD project concerns the development of innovative catalytic and photocatalytic methods (homogeneous and heterogeneous) for the complete downstream of drugs through oxidation reactions using porphyrins and metalloporphyrins-based hybrid materials immobilized into inorganic supports. Also, her work is focused on the research of new effective pharmaceutical formulations to improve the performance of existing ones, for instance through co-crystals synthesis, and testing in bacteria. During this period, she becomes an independent user of characterization techniques such as HPLC, GC, LC-MS, UV/Vis and IR spectroscopy, also Mass spectrometry as well as NMR technics. Especially, she is specialized in the use of HPLC and GC attending several courses and collecting certifications to prove her technical skills. Giusi Piccirillo has participated in 3 research projects, and she is the author/co-author of 12 papers in scientific international journals (9 published and 3 in submission phase), 12 poster communication and 12 oral communications in national and international scientific congresses. Currently, she won a research grant under the project SoundFusion concerning the hydrogen and deuterium saturation studies in palladium-based materials for photoacustic application. In 2021, she became an active member of the project "Bioplastics - in search of a Sustainable Future", promoting activities to raise awareness in the search of alternative sources to substitute plastic materials in daily life. She also contributed to the organization of several events such as the Researcher Night, the Portuguese Junior Chemistry Olympics (2016-2022) and the XXVI Iberoamerican Congress on Catalysis - CICat 2018, as well as workshops and laboratory activities with university students. Additionally, during the Covid-19 pandemic, she was the creator and responsible for the development of a disinfectant gel "UcareUClean" that was officially registered with a national trademark (nº 642998), published in the Industrial Property Bulletin of 2020-08-28 (document nº 2001126561).
