I am a junior researcher at the Applied Molecular Biosciences (UCIBIO) research unit within the Faculty of Science and Technology, NOVA University of Lisbon (FCT-NOVA), Portugal. My academic journey began at NOVA University of Lisbon, where I earned a BSc in Biochemistry in 2011 and an MSc in Biotechnology in 2013. Later, I pursued a PhD in Biochemical and Biological Engineering at the same institution from 2018 to 2023. My research interests have been focused on biopolymer production, characterization, and their applications, with a particular emphasis on the pharmaceutical and biomedical fields. Over the past years, I have contributed to advancing the understanding of how biopolymers can be used as structural materials in the development of transdermal delivery systems. This was accomplished through the fabrication of polysaccharide-based hydrogels and microneedle arrays made from polyhydroxyalkanoates. Currently, I am the co-author of 21 peer-reviewed papers (12 as first author) and 3 book chapters, with a total of 372 citations and an h-index of 12 (November 2024, Source: Scopus). Throughout my scientific career, I have actively participated in several European and national research projects, collaborating with a diverse range of companies, international universities, and research institutes. I have also presented my research at > 20 international and national conferences. I was co-supervisor of a BSc student and actively mentored several MSc students in their research work. Currently, I am a co-supervisor for one PhD student.
