M.J. Ferreira graduated in Chemical Engineering in 1998 from Instituto Superior Técnico and completed a PhD in Chemistry by the same institution in 2006, where she developed new Titanium catalysts for olefin polymerization. She worked as a postdoc in several research groups worldwide, in a variety of different topics: -dinitrogen activation (with M. Fryzuk at UBC, Vancouver, Canada, 2006-2008); -C-H activation coupled to amination (with P. Hofmann at CaRLa, Heidelberg, Germany, 2008-2010); -olefin metathesis (with E.N. dos Santos at UFMG, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, 2011-2012); -functionalized mesoporous silicas for cellulose hydrolysis (with P. Ferreira at UA, Aveiro, Portugal, 2012-2013); - liquid and solid state NMR (with J.R.Ascenso and T. Nunes at IST, Lisbon, Portugal, 2013-2018). The last position also involved the management of IST's NMR facility, student supervision, as well as teaching, activities that have remained to the present day. She teaches/taught: -NMR training; -Homogeneous Catalysis to PhD students; -Solid-State NMR to Master and PhD students in the course "Métodos Analíticos e Estruturais" and as a tutor in several Solid-state NMR courses); -In 2019/2020 she taught Chemistry I to Chemical Engineering Students. She is currently an Invited Assistant Professor at IST and teaches General Chemistry to first year students of Chemical Engineering. In 2018 she was hired as a Researcher at Associação do Instituto Superior Técnico para a Investigação e Desenvolvimento (IST-ID) through an international competitive call, to develop new ruthenium chemistry and continue the management of the NMR facility at IST. She has started her independent research by supervising two PhD students (since April 2019 and since December 2021), two MSc grantees (from October 2018 to September 2019 and from December 2019-December 2021) and two Master Students (the first finished January 2021 with 19/20, the second October 2022) with 17/20, divided by three research topics: ruthenium hydrides, functionalization of heteroallenes with titanium complexes and iridium complexes supported by apigenin . She also co-supervised a PhD student that worked in asymmetric catalysis (with U Coimbra, CATSUS PhD program) and currently supervises a PhD student in Pollutant Recycling and Remediation using High-Performance Carbon-based Composite Materials. She is a team member in two projects from PTNMR network approved by FCT: PTNMR PhD program and Roadmap of Infrastructures (6.3 M€), and a team member in another three projects also approved by FCT: the project MOFbioFILM (LISBOA-01-0145-FEDER-029697, 150k€), the project CATCH4LIFE: Hydrothermal Catalysis & Methane Reactions for Life (PTDC/QUI-QIN/3898/2020, 250k€) and the project BioCFiber - Fibras de carbono bioderivadas (2022.08091.PTDC, 250 k€). She is also National Coordinator of the European Project MET-EFFECT (https://met-effect.com/). She co-authored 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals (one as a corresponding author). Her work has been cited 861 times (according to Google Scholar) and 657 times (WoK, 585 without sel-citations) (h-factor= 18 (Google Scholar), 16 (WoK), accessed February 2024).
