My research relies on the use of neuroimaging techniques as a window towards understanding typical and atypical behavior, and I have been involved on several national and international projects. My PhD thesis, which I performed in the University of Barcelona under the supervision of Dr. Carles Soriano-Mas (with a predoctoral grant from the Generalitat de Catalunya), was focused on studying the neurobiological correlates of emotion regulation in psychiatric disorders, including the use of meta-analytical techniques. Also, I developed an interest in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) research that still continues today, and that opened me the possibility of collaborating in the international consortium ENIGMA. During that period, I was also awarded with two international research stay grants, that allowed me to spent two months doing a research stay in the Groote Schuur Hospital (University of Cape Town, South Africa), and three months in the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS, University of Minho, Portugal). After depending my PhD, I spent three years as a post-doctoral researcher at the ICVS in the University of Minho, where I expanded my interests into the study of other psychiatric disorders, and into developing novel biologically-informed treatments such as neurofeedback (a non-invasive neuromodulation technique). Moreover, I have been involved in a project exploring mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I am Principal Investigator (PI) of two projects: one related to OCD research, and another focused at studying sex- and gender-related variables in the stress response, attempting to expand on the binary framework of sex differences in order to improve personalized healthcare. During this period I was also involved in the supervision of students (5 master thesis and 5 laboratory rotations completed, and 3 PhD thesis ongoing), the organization of research activities, and in science communication events. Finally, I was awarded with a “María Zambrano” contract to start working in the Neuropsychology and Functional Neuroimaging group from the Jaume I University, and more recently, I received a Ramón y Cajal contract that will allow me to consolidate my research career and to stablish a strong research line in the institution, while keeping a close collaboration with my network of international collaborators, particularly with the research team at ICVS. During this time at Jaume I University I was also granted two more projects as PI, to continue exploring sex/gender differences in stress, emotional processing, and impulsivity, using novel neuroimaging and meta-analytical techniques. From a scientific production perspective, the 40 publications registered in Scopus since 2016 have generated 726 citations and an h-index of 12. Out of the 32 publications with impact factor available, 26 are Q1, from which 13 are D1.
