RSocodato is an accomplished Neuroscientist with a Doctorate in Neurosciences from the Fluminense Federal University, Brazil, and a split period at the University of Coimbra, Portugal. He also holds a Master's degree in Neuroimmunology and a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, both from the Fluminense Federal University. Since 2019, RSocodato has been working as a Junior Researcher at the Institute for Research and Innovation in Health, Portugal. Prior to this, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute for Molecular and Cellular Biology of the University of Porto, Portugal, from 2013 to 2019, and as a Postdoctoral Researcher at New York University Langone¿s Neuroscience Institute, USA, in 2012. RSocodato's research interests center around neuroscience and neuroimmune signaling. He has conducted extensive research on the role of microglia in various pathological conditions, the complex interplay between the immune system and the central nervous system, and the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying synaptic plasticity and behavior. RSocodato has also demonstrated a passion for teaching and has taught undergraduate courses in Neuroscience, and supervised laboratory activities. His contributions to the field have been recognized with several fellowships, grants, and awards, and they have served as a reviewer for scientific journals in the fields of Neuroscience and Neuroimmunology. With 39 peer-reviewed papers and 5 book chapters, RSocodato has an h-index of 20/19 on Google Scholar/Scopus. Over the past 5 years, RSocodato has continued to produce high-quality research, publishing an average of 4.6 articles per year, including publications in top-tier journals. Notably, in 10 of the 23 papers, RSocodato was the first or corresponding author, and has received over 1000/800 citations on Google Scholar/Scopus, reflecting the quality and importance of his research contributions. RSocodato's first-author publications have significantly contributed to the fields of neuroscience, neurology and addiction, with a particular emphasis on Alzheimer's disease (AD), neuroinflammation, and substance abuse. These include: Clarifying the role of microglial Src tyrosine kinases and RhoGTPases in AD pathology and oxidative stress, as demonstrated in the highly regarded studies published in Cell Reports 2020 (PMID: 32579923) and Free Radic Biol Med 2018 (PMID: 29501565). The 2020 Cell Reports study on RhoA, microglia, and AD has been widely acclaimed by the scientific community and has been featured in several news outlets, as well as the ALZforum. Moreover, his research published as a cover and featured article in Science Signaling 2020 showed that alcohol consumption can cause abnormal synaptic pruning, leading to increased anxiety via microglial inflammation. The study highlighted that these harmful effects can be prevented through genetic or pharmacological inhibition of microglial TNF production. In addition, RSocodato's study published as a cover article in Neuropsychopharmacology 2021 showed that Methamphetamine-induced microgliosis is associated with high-glutamate release from astrocytes in a TNF- and calcium-dependent manner, ultimately influencing anxiety and risk-assessment behaviors. RSocodato's contributions to collaborative research efforts have also been instrumental in uncovering important discoveries, including the previously unknown role of microglia in the pathogenesis of Machado-Josef disease, the significant impact of redox balance and antioxidant function on neurotransmission, the propagation of protein synthesis inhibition in the central nervous system through ROS signals, and the positive effect of the RhoGTPase Rac1 on behavioral function in an animal model of ischemic stroke. Overall, RSocodato's work has expanded our understanding of glial-neuron crosstalk and the mechanisms underlying neuronal dysfunction, and has the potential to inform the development of new treatments and therapies.
