Rui Araújo, MD, PhD, FEBN (08.03.1987) is a neurologist from Porto, Portugal. He concluded his Ph.D studies in the Donders Institute Radboud University under the supervision of Prof. dr. Bastiaan R. Bloem in March 2022. His dissertation was entitled: ¿The Art of clinical neurology¿, and received the ¿cum laude¿ distinction. His hesis was centered around three fundamental skills for a clinical neurologist: careful observation, clinically focused touch, and purposeful listening. He drew parallels between the seemingly distant worlds of art and medicine, providing evidence of a symbiotic relationship between the two. He concluded that observing and listening to patients is as important as ever (perhaps even more so) in today¿s modern neurology practice, where the unfolding technical developments carry a risk of driving art and medicine further apart. The studies in the dissertation include publications in leading scientific journals, including The British Medical Journal and Annals of Neurology. Before the public defense of his Ph.D, Dr. Rui Araújo had obtained the title of Fellow of the European Board of Neurology, after successfully passing the European Board Examination (which is an initiative from the Union Européene des Médecins Spécialistes in cooperation with the European Academy of Neurology). He also had already passed the national neurology board examinations. He is currently working as a clinical neurologist in Centro Hospitalar Universitário São João in Porto, Portugal. He was invited to join the board of the Portuguese Society of Neurology, which he did in 2020, and was elected for a second term in 2022. Following the successful conclusion of his Ph.D, Dr. Rui Araújo was invited by the Editor-in-Chief of The Lancet Neurology, to provide book reviews for the journal, which he has been doing since 2022. Furthermore, he started working as an assistant professor for the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, where he teaches medical students and supervises master¿s thesis in the field of neurology. Dr. Rui Araújo has over 30 peer-reviewed publications, published in prestigious journals, including The Lancet, Movement Disorders, European Journal of Neurology, Annals of Neurology, Parkinsonism and Related Disorders, Practical Neurology, Movement Disorders Clinical Practice, and Neurology.
