Paulo Jorge Soeima Carmona Mendes (Paulo Mendes), born in Lisbon, Portugal, is a doctorate researcher for the Institute of R&D in Structures and Construction (CONSTRUCT) at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto, Portugal. He earned his Doctor's degree in Civil Engineering in 2024 from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto. His thesis offers a novel methodology for determining an efficient strategy for reuse offshore platforms from oil and gas to wind energy generation, incorporating analysis of metocean data, structural analysis, and lifecycle assessment. He is an Invited Assistant Professor at both the Lusófona University of Porto and Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto, Portugal. With over +100 peer reviews for 20+ journals, Paulo Mendes has also published several articles in renown journals and has expertise in the design and revision of offshore structures from his professional experience in FORCE Technology, Norway. Currently, his research interests are centered on the development of advanced strategies for the fatigue damage assessment. In particular, he is focused in investigating the mechanical behaviour of high-strength steel welded joints, which are commonly used in offshore connections, and investigating the impact of multi-source uncertainties on fatigue test results and overall structural integrity.
