Nuno M.M. Moura graduated in Chemistry at the University of Évora in 2006. Then he was awarded a fellowship in Prof. JAS Cavaleiro group at the University of Aveiro. In 2012 received his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Aveiro. His doctoral research focused on developing new synthetic approaches to prepare new porphyrin-based photosensitizers. During his PhD, N.M.M. Moura did an internship in Vigo (Spain). From 2013-2018, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Aveiro, working on the design and development of advanced photoactive materials containing porphyrinoids to be used in photodynamic processes, supported by an individual fellowship awarded by FCT. Currently, he is a Ausxiliar Researcher at the LAQV and his current research interests are focused on the development of new photoactive molecules/materials for photodynamic processes. To achieve his aims, he has been devoted to the synthesis and physicochemical studies of porphyrinoids with suitable properties for photomedicine, photoinactivation of microbial pathogens, solar devices, photocatalysis and (chemo)sensors. His multifaceted scientific path has been recognized by FCT as a team member in three 3-year projects, and one 18-month exploratory project (EXPL/QUI-QOR/0586/2021 - granted in 2021 as a Principal Researcher), and an HORIZON programme with a total of >1235 keuro. He participated in the PhD research work of 11 visiting students and 1 post-doc from international universities. His competencies are also demonstrated by his experience in laboratory management since 2012. He is/was involved in the COST Actions CA18132-GLYCONANOPROBES (WG1/WG2) and EURESTOP-CA21145 (WG3), three FCT-CNRST and two FCT-DAAD transnational cooperation agreements, and collaborative research programs with national and international universities, maintaining a strong and funded research program. Regarding networking, currently, collaborate with: i) National: C. Lodeiro (chemosensors, LAQV/Lisbon); I. Gonçalves/P. Ferreira (bio-based polymers, CICECO/UA), A. Almeida (biology, CESAM/UA), V. Serra (photochemistry, CQE-IST); T. Trindade (nanomaterials, CICECO/UA), L. Faria/E. Silva (photocatalysis, UPorto); A. Mendes/M. Pereira (solar cells, UPorto); ii) International: K. Castro/R. da Silva (PDT assays, Brazil), S. Radi (water remediation, Morocco), T. Torres (phthalocyanine synthesis, Spain), P. Tagliatesta (porphyrinoids synthesis, Italy), K. Valachová (catalysis, Slovakia), A. Farinha/G.J. Witkamp (sensors/remediation, KAUST, Saudi Arabia). From this network, promising outcomes for the application of porphyrin derivatives and other organic compounds were achieved. He is the author of 79 original research and review papers in high-ranked international peer-reviewed journals, 6 of them highlighted as the front cover picture, with +1480 citations and an H-index of 23 (Source: Scopus, February 2025). He has been invited to deliver talks at national and international scientific conferences. Additionally, he published 2 book chapter, 5 conference proceedings, 89 oral and 85 posters communications. He has also been recognized such as Guest Editor of 4 Special, member of the editorial board of Organic Chemistry Section of the journal Molecules and reviewer for top-quality international journals. Currently, he is the supervisor of 2 PhD and 3 MSc candidates, 1 degree student. Since his PhD was responsible for the supervision of 7 MSc students, 25 final degree projects and 5 research fellow. He has been also actively involved in teaching/mentoring, science outreach and public engagement activities. In 2018, was selected by the Portuguese Society of Chemistry (SPQ) to represent Portugal at the Young Investigator Workshop 2018 (YIW2018) held in Oxford, UK. He received in 2019 from SPQ the Portuguese Award for Best Young Organic Chemist. In 2021, was selected by the Lisbon Academy of Sciences to join the Young Scientists Seminar (SJC), in the field of Sciences for the period 2021-2023.
