Marta Martins is a researcher at the Centre for Psychological Research and Social Intervention (CIS-Iscte) since 2019, and an Invited Assistant Professor at Iscte since 2020. Marta Martins secured a 6-year research position in the 2023 FCT scientific employment call. Her research focuses on the psychology and neurobiology of music, reading, and auditory-motor processes. She addresses these topics by combining experimental psychology and cognitive neuroscience methods in individuals of all ages, with particular interest in children and specialised populations (e.g., musicians). Before joining CIS-Iscte, Marta Martins completed a Ph.D. in psychology at U Porto (2019), with a dissertation on behavior and brain plasticity in reading and music (funded by competitive grants from FCT and Bial Foundation). She developed her work in collaboration with Dr. Christian Gaser (U Jena), and did an internship at Gaab Lab (Harvard U) under a Fulbright research grant. She has a degree in biology (2007) and a MSc in Education Administration and Management (2012). She has the 8th degree in treble recorder and for 8 years she taught music in primary schools. She has published 11 peer-reviewed articles (7 as the first author) in collaboration with >10 different researchers in national and international universities. Her work has been published in journals including Brain Structure & Function, Scientific Reports, NeuroImage, and Emotion Review. She was invited to 11 talks in scientific and general public events (1 international). Her work has been awarded 7 times, including with the 2023 Young Research Award from the Portuguese Association for Experimental Psychology, APPE.
