I hold a BSc Degree in Biological Sciences (2008) from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), and a PhD Degree in Biochemistry (2014) from Universidade Nova de Lisboa - Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier (Portugal). In the latter, I have also developed scientific research as a Post-Doctoral Fellow from 2015 until 2021, in the areas of microbiology and biochemistry. Since April 2021, I am a R&D Scientist and Project Manager in the private biotechnology company Sea4Us – Biotecnologia e Recursos Marinhos S.A., leading biotechnology activities on the discovery of marine-derived bioactive molecules with potential applications in human health. I am particularly involved in the discovery of new bioactive compounds derived from micro and macroalgae that can have an application in the areas of pain relief, inflammation, auto-immune disorders and infectious diseases. At Sea4Us, I am also responsible for the implementation of medium and high-throughput screening platforms for the discovery of new bioactive extracts, fractions, and compounds. As part of my responsibilities at the company, I also perform patentability and freedom-to-operate analysis of the newly discovered molecules. I have a total of 12 published peer-reviewed scientific articles, 2 peer-reviewed book chapters (and another currently on review stage), and several communications in national and international scientific congresses and meetings. During my academic research period, I was always involved in the training and supervision of students, including the co-supervision of 2 Master students. At Sea4Us, these supervision responsibilities are still present and constant, as is part of the company’s philosophy to participate in the training and education of young researchers.
