Sarah Warkentin graduated in Nutrition in 2009 at São Camilo University, in São Paulo, Brazil, and obtained a Masters in Science degree in 2013 by the Federal University of São Paulo. Her Masters was focused on the investugation of the determinants of exclusive breastfeeding duration among children under two years of age in Brazil, using a national dataset. Her PhD in Sciences was obtained in October 2017 at the Federal University of São Paulo. In her PhD, she was co-responsible in planning a research study which aimed to validate questionnaires designed to measure parent feeding practices and investigate its determinants among 2-8 year-olds in São Paulo. She was also responsible for data collection in 16 schools and more than 1,200 children, supervision of data entering, writing and co-authoring of 9 peer-review papers (4 as first author). Also during her PhD, Sarah started a collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she performed an one-year internship at the Appetite Lab. In addition to her work as a researcher, Sarah also was employed as an associate professor at a private University in São Paulo, from August 2012 until December 2018. She was responsible for different disciplines in the graduation courses on Nutrition and Nursing, such as Nutrition in Public Health, Maternal, child and adolescent Nutrition, Epidemiology and Food and Nutrition Policies. In addition to the regular classes, Sarah was responsible for students` internships at public schools and health care centers. Sarah gained skills in orientating students by supervising 20 graduate students in their final bachelor thesis in Nutrition. From Jan 2019 - Feb 2022 she worked at the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto (ISPUP) as a post-doctorate researcher in a project funded by FCT, which aimed to clarify the contribution of appetite-related eating behaviours as drivers for excessive adiposity-gain across the life span, providing supporting evidence for possible gene-environment interactions which increase obesity risk. Nowadays she continues as an external collaborator at ISPUP. She started working, in March 2022, at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health, Spain, as a post-doctorate researcher, in a project aiming to evaluate how changes in the urban and social environment affect weight gain and obesity in children, through a novel moving2health natural experiment approach (2022-2024). Also, she was funded by a Beatriu de Pinós post-doctoral fellowship (2023-2026), in which she is exploring the relationship between the urban exposome, including air pollution, food environment, walkability, access to natural spaces and area deprivation, and the individual exposome, including dietary patterns, SES of the family, sleep duration and physical activity levels, on the development of overweight and obesity during adolescence, using a multi-country longitudinal design. Her skills are related to fieldwork management and data collection, database management and correction, statistical analyses of data, using R®, SPSS® and Stata® softwares, preparation of reports, manuscripts and grant writing. Sarah published a total of 41 full-text papers, presented her work in more than 30 national and international conferences and collaborated in 3 book chapters. Sarah`s current h-index in Scopus is 14, with 376 citations (updated March 2024). Her current research interests are related to the investigation of enviornmental determinants of childhood obesity, eating behaviors, assessment of food consumption and its impact of health.
