Marta Dias graduated in 2003 in Chemical Engineering in Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia. In 2011 she completed the PhD with the thesis: "B-Fe-U ternary phase diagram and ternary compounds characterization" in Materials Engineering field at Instituto Superior Técnico. After obtaining the PhD degree in 2011, Marta Dias (MD) was awarded an FCT Post-Doc position at Instituto de Plasma e Fusão Nuclear (IPFN) at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), where she started to work in the field of advanced materials for extreme conditions. The areas of scientific interest were focused on (i) development and production of novel materials composites, (ii) their mechanical, structural and thermal characterization together with (iii) their interaction with radiation and plasmas using nuclear techniques of characterization. Between 2011 and 2016, MD has been involved in research of W-Ta fibre composites for applications as plasma facing components produced with different techniques: spark plasma sintering, pulse plasma sintering and hot isostatic pressing. During these period collaborations were performed with National Institute of Materials Physics in Romania as well as with Portuguese industry Diapor for materials consolidation. In order to perform mechanical characterization of the new materials, collaboration with Departamento de Ciencia de Materiales-CIME of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in Spain was also established. Recently MD is particularly focused on the production of thermal barrier interlayers specially the class of WC-Cu and Cu-Y2O3 composites. Moreover, the interest for new materials is growing and the developments in CuCrFeTiV and CrNbTaVW alloys was started in the last two years. Four master thesis resulted from the work developed in the last 5 years with the titles: WC-Cu cermet materials: production and characterization (2015), Production, characterization and modelling of WC-Cu cermet materials (2017), CuCrFeTiV high entropy alloys as new thermal barriers (2017), HEAs: High entropy alloys for advanced systems and engines (2019), together with one PhD thesis: Study of irradiation effects in tungsten and production of tungsten alloys for fusion devices (2018). In addition, MD held 22 orals and 25 posters communications in international conferences and EUROfusion meetings. Since 2014, she coordinates one task in WP-MAT -High Heat Flux Materials group in EUROfusion consortium. In 2016, MD was examiner in one master degree. She was a member of the organizing committee of international conferences and acts as a referee in international scientific journals. From her work resulted 40 articles published in international journals, 20 with first author, with over 220 citations and h factor as 9. The articles were published in international journals with high impact factor (>2) such as Microscopy and Microanalysis (2.495), Journal of Nuclear Materials (2.547) and Journal of Alloys and Compounds (4.175). One relevant and extensive work was accepted in Acta Materialia (IF=8.2) with the title: “Gibbs-Thomson effect as driving force for liquid film migration: Converting metallic into ceramic fibers through intrinsic oxidation” where MD is the first author.
