Luisa Mendes Arruda is a project manager at Fibrenamics/Institute for Innovation in Fibre and Composite Materials. She holds a PhD in Textile Engineering from the University of Minho, a Master's degree in History and Art Criticism from the Federal University of Espírito Santo, an MBA in Business Management from the Fundação Getulio Vargas, and a degree in Fashion Design. Over the past ten years, Luisa has concentrated her research efforts on smart textiles, including piezoresistive sensors and textile harvesting and storage systems, as well as wearable and assistive technologies such as haptic feedback systems. Her work also includes 3D printing of textile structures, eco-design, and biomimetic and nature-centred design. Luisa is a designer, researcher, and professor specialising in postgraduate programmes in Brazil and Portugal. She served as an elected member of the Fashion Collegium of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture for three years. Luisa is a distinguished designer who has received numerous accolades for her innovative contributions. She was awarded an Honorable Mention at the 13th edition of the International Design Awards (IDA 2019) in the Fashion – Textile and Materials category. Additionally, she secured first place in the CREATEX project: Textile Heritage Inspiring Creatives and the FUSION project.
