João Pedro Silva Gomes graduated from the 5-year integrated BSc+MSc program in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at the School of Science and Technology (NOVA) in December 2021. His thesis dissertation was conducted at Repsol Polímeros, S.A., Sines, focusing on addressing the increase in acid gas composition (CO2 and H2S) in Steam Crackers and the resulting operational challenges in a reactive distillation column. In January 2022, he commenced the Doctoral Program in Refining, Petrochemical, and Chemical Engineering within the EngIQ program. His research aims to study and implement the substitution of N, N–dimethylformamide (DMF), a potentially toxic solvent used to separate 1,3-butadiene at Repsol Polímeros, with a safer alternative. This initiative is driven by the need to align with REACH legislation and enhance workplace safety.
