Mónica holds a licentiate degree in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, which gave her technical skills for numerous biochemical and microbiological approaches of detecting and quantifying biological samples. During her MSc in Biomedical Research, she specialized in immunity and infection gaining new technical skills for immune-related technics of cell sorting (magnetic) and flow cytometry (from bench to analyses). While obtaining her Dr. rer. nat. degree (PhD equivalent), Mónica studied the molecular elements of the circadian related with immunological pathways at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin Lebenswissenschaftliche Fakultät. For that, she developed proficiency in analyzing biological rhythms and performing genetic manipulation, as well as training in analyzing high-throughput gene expression data with posterior gene set enrichment analysis. She published 11 papers, organized one event and was involved in 4 main projects. Currently she is a Assistant Researcher at Multidisciplinary Institute of Aging, MIA Portugal.
