João Vareda concluded his PhD chemical engineering in the University of Coimbra in 2022. In 2017 Dr. Vareda was granted with a doctoral fellowship by FCT (2018-2021) with the workplan Environmental Cleaning and Recovery of Heavy Metals via Functionalization of Silica Aerogels. Dr. Vareda’s scientific experience includes his positions as a MSc grant researcher in the research projects AerogelDustFree (University of Coimbra, 2017) and BIOSHELL (University of Coimbra, 2021-2022) and as post-doctoral grant researcher in project NATURAL (University of Aveiro, 2023). In 2015 he received a grant from the Calouste Gubenkian Foundation under the scope of the Programa de Estímulo à Investigação 2015 program, with the project AeroMCatch - Silica Aerogels for Remediation of Soils Contaminated with Heavy Metal, developed from January 2016 to February 2017. He was awarded, as IR, with the Projeto Semente de Investigação Interdisciplinar 2023 from University of Coimbra and Santander, in the Climate, Energy and Mobility strategic area, to be developed in 2023. Dr. Vareda co-authored several peer-reviewed papers (19 papers published), 4 of which as a corresponding author. His current h-index is 12 and he has been cited over 670 times according to Web of Science. He presented several communications at conference meetings and seminars several times (16 oral and poster communications) and two of these presentations were awarded as best oral presentation at a conference (2019). He works in the area(s) of Engineering and Technology with emphasis on Chemical Engineering, Exact Sciences with emphasis on Chemical Sciences with emphasis on Colloid Chemistry and Engineering and Technology with emphasis on Materials Engineering with emphasis on Composites.
