A. S. Viana is Associate Professor at Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL) and Researcher at Centro de Química Estrutural (CQE-Ciências) and Institute of Molecular Sciences, with a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry (2002), with work developed at FCUL and the University of Wales, Bangor. Ana S. Viana is expert in electrochemistry and surface (bio)functionalisation, including nanomaterials, organic coatings (alkythiols, supported lipid membranes, redox and conducting polymers) and biomolecules for biosensing, electrocatalysis and energy storage applications. She is also proficient in high-resolution imaging (atomic force and scanning tunnelling microscopy) and optical characterisation techniques (such as ellipsometry and surface plasmon resonance). A. S. Viana has co-authored 123 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and has presented over 100 oral and 100 poster communications at scientific meetings. Supervised 4 PhD and 15 MSc students (5 ongoing) in chemistry and biochemistry. Was Principal Investigator of 6 R&D projects (3 of them bilateral collaborations with Germany and China), participated in 12 other R&D projects (3 of them as Team Leader from FCUL) and in 2 management committees of Cost Actions in Biocatalysis and Bioadhesion. In 2019/2020 she was co-founder and CSO of the start-up company Nitrogen Sensing Solutions, Lda, in the field of electrochemical biosensors.
