Sónia Alexandra Correia Carabineiro graduated in Applied Chemistry (Biotechnology) in 1994 by Nova University pf Lisbon (Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, FCT-UNL). She made Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (Catalysis) in 2001 on the same University. She made Habilitation (Agregação) in 2019 at the University of Lisbon (Instituto Superior Técnico da Universidade de Lisboa, IST). She was Invited Researcher (2000) and Post Doc at Leiden University, Netherlands (2000/2003) and IST (2004/2007). She was Assistant Researcher (2007/2013) and Principal Researcher (2013/2018) at Faculty of Engineering from the University of Porto (FEUP). In 2019 she was Integrated Researcher at the IST and Invited Visiting Professor at Wuhan Textile University, China. She is now (since 2020) Assistant Professor at FCT-UNL. She published more than 20 chapters in books, more than 190 articles in international scientific journals, more than 200 communications to national and international conferences, and more than 15 invited talks. She is co-inventor of 1 worldwide patent, evaluator of several international project proposals (including European Research Council grants). She has more than 6600 citations and a h index of 46 (Web of Science). She is a regular referee of several international journals, being currently one of the top female reviewers in the world. She is also a member of the Editorial and Reviewer Boards of several journals. She was included in the list of the worldwide most cited scientists (top 2% of Chemistry) published by Stanford University since 2017 until present. She was also chosen as one of the Portuguese Women in Science featured in the 4th Edition of the Book "Mulheres na Ciência" from Ciência Viva, Portugal in 2023. Her research interests include: Catalysis by gold, nanostructured catalysts, mixed metal oxides, graphene, graphitic carbon nitride, carbon nanotubes, oxidation reactions (carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, hydrocarbons, alcohols), heterogenization of homogeneous catalysts, abatement of pollutants from water, soil and air.
