Bárbara Vieira concluded her master's degree in Textile Engineering at the University of Minho (UM) in January of 2022, with a final classification of 15 (out of 20). Throughout the academic path, especially on the projects carried out during this period, Bárbara has developed an interest in scientific research. The projects have helped to enhance her soft skills, such as teamwork, leadership, and time management. Bárbara decided to conduct her dissertation project at CITEVE, a technological center involved with the textile and clothing industry, under the title "Development of Textile Materials with Antimicrobial Properties using Gold Nanoparticles". This project resulted in a scientific paper, as the first author, entitled "Enhancing Functionalization of Health Care Textiles with Gold Nanoparticle-Loaded Hydroxyapatite Composites" (Nanomaterials, IF=5.719, MDPI). In January 2022, Bárbara began a professional internship in Mundotêxtil Industrias Têxteis, S.A. As a part of the Customer Quality team, she was integrated into the quality control of all production processes. During this internship, she worked on the practical aspects of the textile industry. Also, dealing with the industry's everyday problems, helped her manage her emotions and apply critical thinking. Currently, Bárbara is a research fellow at the Centre for Textile Science and Technology (2C2T), inserted the project, Factor S+: A New Raw Material (POCI-01-0247-FEDER047124). Integrated into 2C2T in September 2022, she had the opportunity to improve her laboratory techniques by performing tasks, such as textile dyeing and functionalization, textile recycling, and biological and chemical characterization of the textiles. During this fellowship, Bárbara co-authored two scientific papers "Synergistic Antimicrobial Activity of Silver Nanoparticles with an Emergent Class of Azoimidazoles" (Pharmaceutics, IF=6.525, MDPI) and "Halochromic silk fabric as a reversible pH-sensor based on a novel 2aminoimidazole azo dye" (Polymers, IF=4.967, MDPI). In 2023 Bárbara received a Ph.D. scholarship from Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, and started a Ph.D. in Textile Engineering Doctoral Program at the University of Minho, with the project "Deep Eutectic Solvents for Dyeing and Dye Extraction Process in Textile Industry".
