Killian Lobato began his academic journey at the University of Bath, UK, where he earned a degree in Physics in 2003. The dynamic field of dye-solar cells within the institution's Chemistry department captivated his interest, leading him to pursue and subsequently achieve his PhD in 2007. After spending close to a decade overseas, Killian returned to assume a post-doctoral role at the University of Lisbon, to work on silicon growth techniques pivotal for solar cells. By December 2013, he had ascended to the position of Assistant Professor in Energy Engineering, securing tenure by 2018. His teaching portfolio includes diverse subjects such as Photovoltaic Technologies, Electrochemical Energy Storage, Solar Radiation, Renewable Energy Systems, and more. Killian's dual expertise as a physicist and physical chemist has allowed him to venture into a myriad of research areas. Some prominent areas include laser doping techniques to form tunnel junctions for silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells, luminescence techniques for photovoltaic system maintenance, electrochemical characterization of various solar cells and supercapacitors, and the simulation of solar resources in intricate urban settings. Over the course of his career, Killian has authored 24 peer-reviewed publications, cited 628 times with an h-index of 12 as per Web of Science. Apart from contributing a chapter to a book, he has also been an invited speaker at significant events like the Quantsol Winter Workshop in 2009 or a recent seminar at an event at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (January 2023) on Fundamentals and Applications of Electrochemistry. With a commitment to knowledge dissemination, Killian has presented or contributed to 29 oral presentations at international conferences and presented over 50 posters. His expertise is also evident in his reviews for top-tier journals like RSC Advances (Royal Soc. Chemistry), Energy Science & Engineering (Wiley), and The Journal of Physical Chemistry (American Chemical Soc.). He extends this evaluative role to the European Photovoltaics Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition as a reviewer. Killian's project engagements are equally commendable. As a Principal Investigator, he has secured funding for three large FCT projects, totalling around 500K Euros. Recently, he has secured additional funding through the bilateral Portugal-Germany FCT-DAAD funding programme. Additionally, he's played a pivotal role as a Co-Principal Investigator or researcher in 14 other projects, sourced from FCT, European, or Erasmus channels. He was part of the committee organizing the 11th International Workshop on Crystalline Silicon for Solar Cells & the 4th Silicon Materials Workshop in Lisbon. In terms of mentorship, Killian has successfully overseen the academic progress of two PhD students, while hosting seven others. His most recent PhD student has taken a post in Tesla¿s European Battery Storage business. He has also guided 26 Master's candidates and currently supervises three doctoral candidates.
