I obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2015 at NOVA School of Science and Technology - FCT NOVA. Then, I completed a Master's Degree (MRes) in Biomedical Research, Bacterial Pathogenesis and Infection in 2016 at Imperial College London. Subsequently, I was a Research Fellow (2017-2018) at the Mota Lab in the Applied Biomolecular Sciences Unit - UCIBIO, FCT NOVA, after which I was awarded with a PhD Fellowship by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, which allowed me to pursue a PhD in the same Lab (2018-2022). My main research interests include studying the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying bacterial virulence. Since my Master's degree, I have been focusing on studying type III secretion system-delivered effector proteins of Chlamydia (during PhD) and Salmonella (during MRes), which are key virulence factors of these and other bacterial pathogens during infection of host cells. Nevertheless, I am very curious and thrive on studying other topics within the bacterial pathogenesis field, and when exposed to new challenges and techniques. I am first author of 1 paper and co-author 4 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and I presented 5 posters (one of which was awarded with the 2nd best poster prize) and co-authored at least 4 posters in international and Portuguese meetings. During my PhD studies, I also co-supervised a Bachelor's student mini-project and assisted practical lectures about immunofluorescence microscopy.
