Romeu António Videira

Romeu A. Videira (RV, male; author/co-author of 66 research papers, 1 international patent application, 5 book chapters) was graduated in Biochemistry, University of Coimbra, in 1993, and achieved his Ph.D. degree in 2003, in Biochemistry - Biochemical Toxicology, University of Coimbra. In parallel, he assumed duties as teaching assistant (1998-2009) in Polytechnic Institute of Viseu (IPV). From July 2009 to 2015, RV was Assistant Investigator in University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto (UTAD). From April 2016 to the present, Romeu Videira is Researcher at LAQVREQUIMTE, University of Porto, developing his investigation within the Natural Products - chemistry and bioactivity group. Between 2019-2021 he was also Invited Assistant of Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto (FFUP). RV and his students (currently he supervise/co-supervises 4 Ph.D. students) are interested to deciphering the molecular mechanisms underlying the homeostatic interconnectivity among mitochondrial activity (lipidome, bioenergetic metabolism), cell redox state and cell-to-cell communication processes. He is investigating how the breakdown of this process is related with the degenerative brain diseases, to identify novel targets for therapeutic intervention. Natural products and Nanotechnological approaches to fight against Alzheimer’s and Parkinson's diseases are also under investigations.
