CURRICULUM PATH: Vera L. S. Freitas (VLSF) began her academic journey at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto (FCUP), earning a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry in 2005. She completed her Master's in Chemistry in 2007 (awarded Best Student Prize) and achieved her Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2011 with an APPROVED WITH DISTINCTION mark, supported by an FCT grant. Currently, VLSF is pursuing a Master's degree in Project Management, expected to be completed in November 2025. SCIENTIFIC PATH AND AFFILIATION: 2012–2017: Post-doctoral research at CIQUP (R&D Unit, FCUP), funded by an FCT grant, focusing on experimental thermochemistry and computational studies of heterocyclic compounds. 2018: Continued post-doctoral activities in the Sustained Advanced Materials Project, emphasizing advanced materials with sustainable applications. 2019–2025: Researcher at CIQUP, contributing to key projects, teaching Chemistry courses at undergraduate and graduate levels, and mentoring MSc students. 2017–2024: Invited Assistant Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, teaching BSc programs such as Pharmacy, Medicinal Biotechnology, Laboratory Biomedical Sciences, and Environmental Health. MAIN SCIENTIFIC AREAS OF RESEARCH: VLSF’s research focuses on Physical Chemistry, Thermodynamics, Thermochemistry, and Computational Chemistry, with specialization in: Experimental and computational thermochemical analysis of heterocyclic and heteropolycyclic organic compounds &Molecular energetics and structure-energetic-reactivity relationships.. CURRENT RESEARCH INTERESTS: ENLIGHT - Energy and Materials Innovation: Exploring thermodynamic properties of non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) and phase change materials (PCMs) for energy storage and conversion, aligning with global sustainability goals. NITROSynT+S: Investigating synergies between thermochemistry and nitrogen heterocyclic compounds’ structural properties to develop innovative applications. ECOFRAGRANCE: Developing thermodynamic models for chemical fragrances to establish benchmark tools for environmental risk assessment. SMART MATERIALS: Studying thermodynamic properties of maleic anhydride derivatives for use in sustainable materials. SCIENTIFIC LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT Since 2022, VLSF has been serving as Co-Chairperson of the Thermodynamics & Thermochemistry Committee of the International Confederation for Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry (ICTAC). She is also an Associate Editor for Thermal Advances, a newly launched Elsevier journal dedicated to advancements in thermal sciences.
