Belmiro Duarte is a Coordinator Professor (habil.) at the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Coimbra Engineering Academy, organic entity of the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra. He teaches courses in Modeling and Simulation, Product Design, Process Design, and Quality Management. His expertise lies in Process Systems Engineering, Biostatistics and Optimization, with significant contributions to research in optimization, biostatistics, process simulation, and quality improvement. Belmiro holds a degree in Chemical Engineering, a Ph.D. in Process Control and Simulation, an MSc in Management (specializing in Scientific Methods of Decision Making), and a Habilitation in Chemical Engineering. With extensive experience in both academia and industry, he has worked as a researcher and consultant, leading advanced developments in experimental design, process modeling using phenomenologica and data-driven paradigms, process optimization, and the development of innovative energy systems by using optimization and simulation tools. He was an integrated research member of Research Centre in Chemical Engineering Reaction and Environmental Sustainability between 2000 and 2024. Currently, he in an integrated research member at INESC-Coimbra.
