Joana Galvão Duarte obtained her master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences with distinction from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra (FFUC) in 2020. Throughout her academic journey, she demonstrated a robust interdisciplinary interest and a taste for practical applications, which she actively pursued through two self-initiated extracurricular internships. These included one at Bluepharma Indústria Farmacêutica - SA and another at Kmetijski inštitut Slovenije, Eslovénia. Additionally, she completed two curricular internships, one in the pharmaceutical industry within Bluepharma's Quality Control Department, and the other in a community pharmacy. In her brief, yet impactful professional experience, she worked as a senior technician in the Laboratory of Clinical Analysis of the University of Coimbra during the COVID pandemic, as a volunteer in the Saúde24 COVID line, and in the Quality Control Unit of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UCQFarma) at FFUC. She also gained valuable experience during a short period as a pharmacist in a community pharmacy. In 2023, she made the decision to reengage in her academic activity and, concurrently, worked as a collaborating researcher of REQUIMTE/LAQV, Group of Pharmaceutical Technology, Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra, concomitantly with her work in the UCQFarma laboratory while, still as a volunteer, in the Saúde24 COVID line. This dedication has resulted in the publication of 4 scientific articles in renowned international scientific journals with a high impact factor (Q1). Her most recent work as first author, titled "Multifunctional hydrogels for chronic diabetic wound healing", published in the European Polymer Journal in April 2024. Since January 2024, she has been a doctoral student in Biomedical Sciences at the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS), University of Porto. Her future scientific interests are focused on the innovative use of biomaterials processed through additive manufacturing, particularly in the field of medical biotechnology, particularly in wound treatment. Presently, as a collaborating member of the Centre of Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Processes (CEMMPRE), classified as Excellent, she is actively looking to further expand her academic expertise in the synthesis, advanced processing, and characterization of materials for biomedical applications, with a specific emphasis on wound healing. The sum of her academic and professional experiences results in practical skills in laboratory techniques and methodologies for identification, characterization, and investigation, alongside data analysis. These skills are perfectly aligned with the stringent standards of pharmaceutical quality. Furthermore, she possesses a profound enthusiasm for scientific writing and a valuable perspective on patient needs and concerns. Her solid collaboration, communication, and empathy skills further enhance her profile.
