Iva Fernandes (IF) is assistant Professor at Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of Faculty of Sciences of University of Porto (FCUP). IF has a degree in Biochemistry and a PhD (SFRH/BD/38883/2007) in Chemistry (2012) obtained at FCUP under the topic hemi-synthesis, bioavailability and biological properties of dietary anthocyanin and anthocyanin-fermented compounds. Since 2013, and after been awarded a postdoctoral grant (SFRH/BPD/86173/2012), IF is member of Food Quality and Technology Group from LAQV-REQUIMTE. IF leads her own group focused on polyphenols application as nutraceuticals, developing physiological relevant experimental models, trying to make science more robust and translatable. IF has received 10 awards, including EWA Eit Food, 2 Fellows, best poster awards, 2 best oral presentation (Portuguese Association of Nutrition (APN) and Science & Wine Congress), conference Grant by the Polyphenols Group, Nutrition Award by APN, Excellence award by SuperBock. IF was involved in the organization of: Global Women's Breakfast, International Workshop Anthocyanins, National Meeting of the Portuguese Chemistry Society. IF published 82 articles published in international peer-reviewed journals, almost all in Q1 (2611 citations, h-index of 30) and has 5 book chapters. The dissemination of her knowledge has been achieved by the participation in (inter)national conferences (51 posters & 38 oral communications) and several invited talks (National Meeting of Blueberry Producers, TEDx Talks, Berry Health Benefits Symposium, Eugloh Summer School and ERASMUS Master WINTOUR). IF work has been recognized by (inter)national research facilities (CINTESIS/FMUP, IBeSa, Wuhan Polytechnic University, Nova Medical School, Northwest A&F University) and food companies (Superbock, Sumol&Compal, Imperial & SONAE), with collaborations in several funded projects (BIOCORK, AGRO 386, VINE&WINE RESIDUES, Sino-Portuguese Program, VINOFLAVO, POLY4CD, NUTRALLERPHEN, FoodSmarTag, ANTHO4SKIN, MONET, VIIAFOOD). Her research is strongly committed to the transfer of knowledge to the industry, being inventor responsible for patent PCT/IB2022/051164. IF was granted project FERMEN.TO, WINPUT and Nano4Nutrition as PI, examples of her leadership. IF has served as Guest Editor for IJMS and Nutrients. IF is reviewer of several Food Science journals. IF has also strategic (inter)national collaborations that are maintained by collaborative transnational networks (OENOVITI, IBERPHENOL, SMARTAgriFor, Sino-Portuguese Program). IF is member of Colab4Food, a network with other entities and stakeholders, dedicated to the implementation of innovation and sustainability of the food industry.
