As a dedicated researcher and academic with over a decade of experience in the field of public security issues, I have made significant contributions to the scientific community's understanding of community-oriented policing (COP) programs in marginalized areas in Latin America. With my research focus on police forces in Brazil, Mexico, and beyond, I have gained particular insights into the nuances and factors that determine the implementation processes of such programs, thanks to the unique perspective ethnographic approaches reveal. My academic journey began in 2012 when I pursued a master's degree in Latin American Studies at Sorbonne Nouvelle University, where I conducted fieldwork in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This experience ignited my interest in public security issues, and I subsequently pursued a Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Montreal, where I compared police forces in popular neighborhoods in Mexico and Brazil. I am now a postdoctoral fellow at CICS.NOVA FCSH, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa where I study police forces and communities in Portugal. Through my research, I developed strong relationships with community leaders and social organizations in these areas, further fueling my passion for researching public security issues. My research contributions have been recognized by the academic community, as evidenced by my publications in high-indexed journals and collective books, and my role in editing various special issues for Policing & Society, Etnográfica and, more recently, International Sociology. Additionally, I have contributed significantly to teaching, serving as a teaching assistant and lecturer for undergraduate and graduate courses at University of Montreal. I have also managed and coordinated multi-stakeholder projects as a project manager for three research groups between 2016 and 2021. With proficiency in four languages - French, English, Portuguese, and Spanish - I have built a strong international and interdisciplinary research network in and outside of Canada. My expertise in public security and policing issues as well as in qualitative methods, particularly ethnography and ethical issues, has led to invitations to present my research and reflections in various settings. My ultimate goal is to use my research expertise and unwavering dedication to community engagement, social inclusion, and social justice to bridge the divide between academic research and the real-world challenges facing public security. I aspire to make a meaningful impact by contributing to the development of effective policies and programs that promote equality, justice, and safety for all.
