Raquel Maria Mendes Pereira has a PhD in Anthropology: Politics and Displays of Culture and Museology (ISCTE- IUL and NOVA FCSH), a Master in Anthropology: Globalization, Migration and Multiculturalism (ISCTE-IUL) and a Degree in Anthropology (ISCTE-IUL). Her PhD thesis, based on long-term fieldwork in Goa (India), examined the complex and conflicting reality of protected areas. It focused on the relationship between a group of artisanal fishermen and the implementation of environmental conservation projects in their villages, highlighting the tensions between local livelihoods and conservation efforts. She is a full member researcher at the Centre for Research in Anthropology (CRIA-NOVA FCSH/IN2PAST; Research Group: Environmental Challenges, Sustainability and Ethnography). Her work includes peer-reviewed publications, participation in national and international scientific events and other institutional encounters. She presented various communications, co-organized panels and seminars. She participated as researcher and outreach worker in national and international research projects with highly competitive financing. She was awarded a PhD Fellowship from FCT and received other research fellowships, awards, and distinctions. She is an active member of several professional associations. Her academic and professional background has given her a high level of proficiency in conducting ethnographic research, based on long-term fieldwork in national and international contexts. She has developed a broad methodological skill set, including participant observation, interviews, questionnaires, focus groups, visual media, archival research, and oral history collection. She has also experience in digital infrastructure management for research and citizen science initiatives. She is skilled in literature reviews, data systematisation and analysis, ethnography, action-research, and netnography. Her work has involved international collaboration, inter-institutional coordination, academic teaching, and training for students, peers, institutions, and other stakeholders. She has a proven track record of local interventions with significant social and public policy impact. She also studied Photography for four years at the Centre of Art & Visual Communication, and multimedia at CENJOR - Centre for Professional Training of Journalists. She has professional experience, including as a trainer, in these fields. Her broader research interests include Environmental Anthropology, Critical Heritage Studies, Cultural Policy, and Ethnography.
