Alexandra Plácido graduated in Biochemistry from University of Porto in 2007, completed a Master degree in Quality Control, Water and Foods at the same University and concluded a PhD degree on Sustainable Chemistry, which was jointly awarded by the University of Porto; Nova University of Lisbon, and University of Aveiro, in 2018. After the PhD, she started post-doc work at the Glial Cell Biology Group/i3S in bioprospecting peptides in nature with anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective activity in human microglia. Following, she was contracted researcher at REQUIMTE/LAQV, Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto (FCUP) and she had been working in the antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of Portuguese amphibians. Since January 2021 I have been responsible for the Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) at the department of chemistry and biochemistry of the FCUP. She has published 45 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, 3 book chapters, 4 proceedings and more than 70 communications in international and national conferences. She has received 9 awards and/or honors. She had been involved in the organization of 6 events and in the scientific committee of 4 events. In their professional activities interacted with 384 collaborator(s) co-authorship of scientific papers. She has supervised/co-supervised 2 PhD student (ongoing), 3 MSc students, and 3 BSc students. She is also CEO and co-founder of the spin-off Bioprospectum and collaborator at the Glial Cell Biology Group/i3S. Her main scientific interests are: bioprospecting, bioactive peptides, natural products, biotechnology, biosensing technologies, microscopy, neuroprotection and human health.
