I took my BSc degree in Biochemistry and Food Chemistry in 2008, and my MSc in Organic Chemistry and Natural Products in 2009, both at University of Aveiro (UA). In 2010, I was awarded with a research grant that allowed me to continue my investigation on synthesis and preparation of new flavonoids derivatives at the Professor Artur Silva Group. Later, I was awarded with a PhD fellowship in chemistry by FCT where I worked on Synthesis and transformation of chromones and 4-quinolones. I synthesized around 170 nitrogen and oxygen derivatives and structurally characterized mainly by Proton and Carbon Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H and 13C NMR) and Mass spectroscopy (MS). My PhD thesis was distinguished by the honorable mention in Portuguese Award for best PhD Thesis in Organic Chemistry 2017. In September 2016, I started a research fellow for three months, that consisted in synthesis and chemical characterization of pyrazoles, bis-pyrazoles and 1,2-di-hydropyridines. Posteriorly, I worked on DRUGORGINORG project where my investigation focused on evaluation of anticancer effects of organic compounds. In this project I worked on biological science, more precisely in anticancer evaluation of synthetic compounds. I worked at the Institute of Biomedicine (iBiMED) on cell culture and was responsible for the in vitro testing of many compounds (around 70) in 2 breast cancer cell lines (MDA-MB231 and T47-D) and prostate cancer cell line (PC3). I acquired skills and knowledge in cytotoxicity assays, cycle analysis, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry cells maintenance. This period was very rich and fascinating for me. Between December 2018-Jule 2022, I was researcher at Compass Research Group where I developed investigation on SUPRASORT and COP2P projects. I worked on chemical functionalization and structural characterization of polymers (laminarin, chitosan, hyaluronic acid, peptides, collagen) and DNA nucleobases to be used in production biomaterials for biomedical applications. Once structurally modified these molecules are used in production of biomaterials (hydrogels, membranes) using different conditions like light (photo-crosslinking), temperature or pH. Different techniques are used for structural characterization such as RMN, FTIR, UV-Vis, SEM as well as their mechanical and chemical properties using equipment like Instron and Rheometer (viscosity, young's modulus) and swelling behavior. In February 2023, I integrated G-Cork project as researcher, I developed quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensors for volatile compounds detection in cork (project with Amorin Cork as partner). Since April 2024 I was researcher at SPECKO group in the PANACEA project. My duties focus on science management, coordinate students/research exchange, scientific events organization. I do also develop some management work as CO-PI of SUPRASORT project. The research I conducted during my PhD, along with the years leading up to it, allowed me to deepen and strengthen my expertise in organic chemistry, materials science, cell manipulation and biological screening, sensing and science management. I do also developed my skills in problem-solving, team works, communication and critical thinking. It also helped me grow up as a versatile chemist and professional. During my scientific career I had two period of scientific interruption due to maternity (2015 and 2020) and employment. Both interruptions had great impact in scientific and pedagogic career (number, planning and quality). I mentoring students and researchers, co-supervised BSc and 1 MSc students, lectured on experimental classes of Organic-Physical Chemistry and Bioorganic at Department of Chemistry-UA and was jury of academic degree (Master thesis, seminar and BSc projects). Since 2015, I published 15 scientific papers, 2 Portuguese patent (005/2024 and 240/2024), 3 book chapter, 3 thesis, 10 oral/poster communications, 2 magazine and newsletter papers. I organize scientific events and revise papers.
