Susana Pinto graduated in 2005 in Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, Portugal (FCTUC). In 2006, she integrated the Chemical Process Engineering and Forest Products Research Centre (CIEPQPF, UC) research team working for 6 months in collaboration with RAIZ (Forest and Paper Research Institute, Aveiro) characterizing the surface properties of paper samples. After, she joined the FCT Project "Biosurfa: Application of biosurfactants for microbial adhesion inhibition in medical devices", performing polymer synthesis and surface modification using chemical and physical methods. At the same time, she completed her Master degree in 2009 at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, Portugal. In 2011 she moved to Aveiro and joined the Organic Chemistry, Natural and Agro-food Products research unit (QOPNA) as a research grant holder in the FCT project "NanoBioCats: Novel nanostructured polymeric materials for concurrent biocatalysis and separation" preparing electrospun nanofibrous membranes for enzyme immobilization. After, she integrated the TEMA (Centre for Mechanical Technology and Automation) research unity in Mechanical Engineering Department collaborating in a project with Amorim Composites Lda where she prepared and characterized cork-graphene nanocomposites aiming to decrease the density of cork composites without compromise its mechanical properties. After, in 2014, she integrated the European Project "MF-Retrofit: Multifunctional facades of reduced thickness for fast and cost-effective retrofitting" with a Science and Technology Manager Grant (BGCT). During this time, she acquired competences in writing scientific and technical reports and she worked in the development of stable phase change materials incorporating graphene-based materials. In 2015, she was granted with a doctoral fellowship from Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) and presented at University of Aveiro in 2020 her PhD thesis "Development and characterization of multifunctional hybrid materials based on cellular metals". She integrated the team of the European H2020 FET-OPEN project: "NSS- A step forward to spinal cord injury repair using innovative stimulated nanoengineered scaffolds", with a Science and Technology Management Scholarship (BGCT). She joined CICECO-Institute of Materials integrating SimIA project: "Intelligent multifunctional lighting and acoustics system for promoting health and well-being at work" during 9 months and at the present she is a junior researcher in the agenda transForm within the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP). She is author or co-author of 1 book and 1 book chapter, of 24 papers in international peer-reviewed scientific journals, with more than 650 citations and h-index of 15. She is co-inventor of 1 national patent and 1 international provisional patent. During her journey , Susana disseminated her work in numerous national and international conferences (16 oral and 24 poster communications), participated in the organisation of 2 conferences. She supervised 2 BSc and 1 MSc students. She mentored several research fellow, BSc and MSc students.
