Natália Duarte did her first degree in Gerontology at the University of Aveiro (2008) and her Master in Physical Activity for Older Adults at the University of Porto. From 2008 to 2015 she had a set of research fellowships in the field of ageing at the Research and Education Unit on Ageing hosted at ICBAS (School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University of Porto). She was researcher in several projects and studies such as PT100 Oporto Centenarian Study, Centenarians offspring: intergenerational ambivalences and demands of care (funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, Grant number: EXPL/MHC-PAP/1064/2013); and Cuidar de Cuida [Caring of Caregivers] (funded by EEAGrants and managed by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Portugal). She has been a member of organizing commissions of scientific meetings developed in Portugal in the field of ageing (e.g., Portuguese Congress in Assessment and Intervention on Social Gerontology). At the same time, she was a trainer and professor at high school institutions (ISCIA - Higher Institute of Information and Administration Sciences and ESSSM - Santa Maria Health School) and performed gerontology consultations at Center CA50+ (hosted at ICBAS). Natália finished her doctoral degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2021 at ICBAS supported by Doctoral fellowship funded by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia. Currently, she is researcher at Center for Health Technology and Services Research (RISE@CINTESIS, ICBAS ¿ School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences) and researcher at CIDIFAD (Center of Research, Diagnosis, Training and Monitoring of People with Dementia) hosted in Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Riba D¿Ave (a private institution of public administrative utility). Despite her interest in health promotion and physical activity for older adults, her contribution to projects and scientific production about dementia has been present since the beginning of her career. However, more recently she has been working exclusively in the field of dementia and she is involved as a researcher in projects that aim to improve the quality of life of people with dementia, e.g., habINdem Habitats inclusivos para a demência¿ [Inclusive habitats for dementia] supported by CENIE; OLAIA Mais vida na demência com natureza e arte [More life in dementia with nature and art] funded by La Caixa Foundation, and Centro de Avaliação e Apoio da Capacidade de Condução para Pessoas com Défice Cognitivo¿ [Center for evaluation and support of driving for people with cognitive decline] funded by BPI Senior Award). Also, she is the principal investigator of the study Evaluation of the training courses about Dementia, running at CIDIFAD. Her main scientific interests are healthy and active ageing, physical activity and care with quality for people with dementia and for their care constellation.
