I am currently a PhD Student at Myocardial (reverse) remodelling (MYOCARE), UnIC - Cardiovascular Research Centre - Surgery and Physiology Department of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP). I am a holder of a BSc in Biochemistry (final score of 17/20) since 2017, and a MSc in Cellular and Molecular Biology (final score of 18/20) since 2019. Both degrees were held in the Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra (UC). Both my BSc project and MSc thesis "Effect of Sex on Brain Metabolism and Intracellular Stress in Type 2 Diabetes" (supervised by Dr Ana Duarte, Profs. Paula Moreira and António Moreno), obtained a score of 19/20 and were carried out at the Metabolism, Mitochondria and Hormones in Brain Disorders Research Line, at the Cell Signaling & Metabolism in Disease Group of the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC), UC. In this group, from February 2016 to September 2020, first as an volunteer researcher, MSc Student and later MSc Researcher (BIM) Fellow from the University of Coimbra (integrated in the EU-funded project Healthy Aging 2020, CENTRO-01-0145-FEDER-000012#1) I primarily correlated sex-specific metabolic and intracellular stress pathways in type 2 diabetic brain with the susceptibility to Alzheimer's disease along reproductive ageing; and was actively involved in other projects aiming to analyze: 1) neuroprotective effect of liraglutide in mature 3xTg-AD female mouse model of Alzheimer´s disease; 2) impact of dual therapy with liraglutide and ghrelin on brain function in a mouse model for Huntington's disease; 3) high cardiovascular risk (HCR) impact on the brain; 4) neuroprotection conferred by an anticholesterolemic against HCR. From November 2020 to July 2021, I was a Volunteer MSc Researcher at the Mitochondrial Toxicology and Experimental Therapeutics Laboratory (CNC/UC-Biotech, Cantanhede), headed by Dr Paulo Oliveira, where I assisted in cell culture and cell death/viability assays and worked on manuscripts. From August 2021 I have been a MSc Researcher at MYOCARE Group, headed by Prof Inês Falcão-Pires, being actively involved in projects aiming to 1) evaluate ketones' impact in aging and cardiovascular diseases, 2) understand the mechanisms underlying cardiac metabolic (in)flexibility during progression to heart failure, and 3) study of metabolic/inflammatory disorders pathophysiological mechanisms and induced alterations on cardiac function. Since September of 2022, I am a PhD Student from the Doctoral Programme in Biomedicine of FMUP. Along my academic and professional path, I acquired a strong background in Biochemistry, Metabolism and Metabolic Disorders, Neuroendocrinology and Neuroscience, laboratorial experience in molecular biology methodologies (e.g. Western blotting, qPCR, ELISA, colorimetry/fluorimetry, high-resolution respirometry), cardiomyocytes function assessment techniques, and animal handling and behavior. I (co)author 3 original scientific paper (68 citations, Google Scholar; 57 by Scopus; Hi=2), 15 oral presentations, 32 poster communications and 9 proceedings in conferences, received an award for best flash communication, was involved in science communication activities and collaborated in the laboratorial supervision of 11 BSc/MSc students and volunteer researchers.
