Previously scientist Director of Research at CNRS and at INRAE(France), I am now guest scientist at IHG/BOKU. I have a phD (1977), an Habilitation thesis (State thesis, 1983). I am an aquatic ecologist working mainly on European rivers and associated fish fauna. I have been involved in studies related to fish-habitat relationships in large rivers and relative influence of local regional environmental variables on large-scale fish species distribution. My activities are also related to the mid-term evolution (past and future) of river fish communities in relation to change of human activities and climate. I am also involved in the implementation of the Water Framework Directive (France and Europe) and the development of biotic indices to assess the ecological quality of rivers. I am involved for the last ten years in the development of eDNA-based methods (Metabarcoding) for the study of the functioning of river fish community and the effects of anthropogenic alterations. I am author/co-author of 105 publications in peer-reviewed journals. My H-Index is 37 (WoS, 2022-02). I am regularly reviewing papers for several journals, the more recent are Molecular Ecology, Environmental DNA, Molecular Ecology Resources, Frontiers Ecology and Evolution, Freshwater Biology, Journal of Fish Biology. I have participated in > 25 research projects, being Principal Investigator in 12 of them (national and international). I am currently involved in a project related to the functioning of fish and amphibians metacommunities in the floodplain of the Danube river.
