Natasa Loncarevic-Vasiljkovic holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience. Her main fields of knowledge are Animal models, Neuroinflammation, Neurodegeneration, Neuroprotection, Animal Behaviour, and Preventive dietary approaches. She is particularly interested in how different dietary approaches (dietary restriction or supplementation) can affect glial cells and neuroinflammation in different physiological and pathological conditions. During her career, Natasa was responsible for establishing different animal disease models, enabling new research fields for the projects she was involved in. Her Ph.D. thesis was focused on the effects of food restriction on processes of inflammation after brain injury. Natasa is the author and co-author of 23 scientific publications, one book chapter, and 19 congress abstracts. She was also an invited speaker in four meetings and is a peer reviewer for several scientific journals. Natasa had the privilege of being invited to join the ERC-funded LIMBO project led by Dr Cláudia Nunes dos Santos, and she currently holds a Postdoc position in the Molecular Nutrition and Health Lab in the NOVA Medical School / Faculdade de Ciências Médicas, Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Natasa has contributed to the establishment of animal models within the Molecular Nutrition and Health laboratory. In her capacity during this project, she undertook the crucial responsibility of introducing two distinct animal disease models, namely the MPTP model of Parkinson's disease and the LPS model of neuroinflammation. Additionally, Natasa played a pivotal role in the design and construction of the behavioral laboratory, specifically tailored for the implementation of animal trials within the ambit of the LIMBO project. Her responsibilities extended to the training of both Ph.D. and master’s students, encompassing essential aspects such as animal procedures, handling, and behavioral testing. During Natasa's participation in the project, two animal trials (MPTP and LPS trial) were accomplished. The success of these trials was attributed to the development of a sophisticated battery of behavioral tests, which transformed them into highly comprehensive studies. These studies played a crucial role in elucidating the effects of (poly)phenol metabolites, spanning from the molecular to the behavioral level. At the moment, Natasa is training PhD students in the Molecular Nutrition and Health laboratory to perform immunohistochemical analysis of the brain samples collected from two trials, and helping them with the imaging and image analysis.
