Inês Catarina Gomes MarquesI graduated in Forest Engineering (2014) from the School of Agriculture (ISA), University of Lisbon (ULisboa). I completed MSc in Natural Resources Restoration and Management (2016) from the University of Évora and ULisbon, during which I participated in the Erasmus study program (Freiburg University - Germany, Oct2014-Feb2015). I received my PhD degree with Distinction and Honour in Fluvial Restoration and Management (2024), through the international FLUVIO Doctoral program. My MSc and PhD dissertations were focused on riparian trees and their responses to environmental stressors, namely temperature-related extreme events. During my PhD, I had several international experiences that were fundamental to help create my researcher profile on the theme of resilience of riparian vegetation to biotic and abiotic stressors, to build my own research network and establish work collaborations. I did 3 stays abroad: 2 short training missions (Universidad de Extremadura, Spain – Jun 2018, Phytophthora Research Centre, Czech Republic – Feb 2020) and a long-term stay in the University of Berkeley (California, USA) to develop part of my work plan (Jan-Set 2021). The Phytophthora Research Centre and the UCBerkeley are internationally renowned institutions, and my stays resulted in the publication of 3 SCI papers and complementary information for my PhD thesis. I currently work as a research technician in the Faculty of Sciences of the ULisboa, integrated in the research group Climate Risk Management (ClimRisk) of the Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes (CE3C). Since 2022 I have been involved in the PROVIDE project, with a consortium of 17 institutions from 10 countries, which focus on urban adaptation to climate change. My current main focus of work is the assessment of climatic changes impacts on human populations and the urban adaptation and mitigation solutions supplied by greening options. I have established a network of contacts with several municipalities of the LMA during the past two years which will be essential to the development of a part of my research plan. The work developed so far in urban heat stress indicators and vulnerability is strongly aligned with the municipalities interest and short-term prospects on climate change mitigation and adaptation.
