PEDRO MIGUEL BAPTISTA TORRES completed his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering on January 16, 2015, at the University of Lisbon, Instituto Superior Técnico. He is an Adjunt Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco and an integrated member of the Research Center for Systems and Technologies (SYSTEC), Advanced Production and Intelligent Systems Associated Laboratory (ARISE), FEUP. He obtained his Bachelor's and 5 years degrees in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering in 2005 and 2007, respectively, from the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco. Following his graduation, he worked as a telecommunications infrastructure project engineer at a company within the Visabeira Group in Viseu. In December 2007, he began working at the School of Technology (EST) of IPCB as an Assistant Professor. He is the Coordinator of the Electrical and Industrial Engineering department and the Coordinator of CTeSP in Automation and Industrial Management, serving as vice-coordinator of the Industrial Engineering degree program between 2015 and 2019 and again between 2021 and 2022. He is a member of the Scientific Council and the Pedagogical Council of ESTCB, a position he also held between 2018 and 2020 and was a member of the Council of the school from 2018 to 2022. He was responsible for international mobility at ESTCB from July 2022 to January 2024. In terms of research, he works in the areas of automation and robotics, machine vision, machine learning/deep learning, and IIoT. He has authored over 60 publications in scientific meetings, international scientific journals, national and international conferences, books, and book chapters. He has participated and continues to participate in various national and international research projects and industry support. He has received several entrepreneurship awards, as well as various awards in the field of robotics at the national robotics festival and the "Best Project Award" from the Hamlyn Center of the Imperial College London in 2015 in the field of surgical robotics. He is member of the Portuguese Engineers council. His areas of interest include Electronics, Instrumentation, Automation, Control, Robotics, Computer Vision, Image Processing, and Machine Learning.
