Nataliya Sakharova is a Research Assistant in Mechanical Engineering Research Center of University of Coimbra, Portugal. She obtained her PhD degree in Physical and Mathematical Sciences (Solid State Physics) by the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University in Kharkiv, Ukraine in 1999. In 2004 she took an opportunity to continue her research activity in CEMUC (University of Coimbra's Mechanical Engineering Research Centre), Portugal. In 2018, she received a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Coimbra. Her areas of scientific activity are mechanical properties of bulk materials and thin films: modelling and numerical simulation, inverse analysis and experimental aspects; experimental mechanical characterization of materials: mechanical tests and structural studies by different techniques, including Transmission Electron Microscopy; metal forming: fundamental aspects, modelling, constitutive laws, inverse analysis, numerical simulation and applications; mechanical properties of nanomaterials: modelling and experimental aspects. Nataliya Sakharova participated, back in 2014, in the conceptualization of the modelling approach, which allowed evaluating the elastic properties of carbon nanotubes, and later on, in 2019, she was an initiator to expand this approach to others carbon structures and also non-carbon nanotubes structures. Thus, she turned a major contributor in the development of the abovementioned research line and respective accomplishments. She is an organizer of the Special Session Nanomaterials of the International Advanced Computational Engineering and Experimenting (ACE-X) conferences since 2017, and a member of Scientific committee of these conferences started from 2019. In the period from 2019 up to now, Nataliya Sakharova was Guest Editor of four Special Issues in open access journal. Since 2015 she reviewed more than 70 manuscripts for international peer review ISI journals. During last three years, Nataliya Sakharova participated as a researcher, promoting the activity of the CEMMPRE - Center for Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Processes for "The European Researchers' Night" (Noite Europeia dos/das Investigadores/as), NEI Coimbra, 2021, 2022 and 2023, and she was responsible for proposal of the CEMMPRE for NEI 2023. Since 2004, N.A. Sakharova published 4 book chapters, 40 papers in international peer review journals indexing in ISI; 6 papers in peer-reviewed conference proceedings indexing in ISI; 1 paper in other international journals with referees; 1 paper in national journal with referees; 14 papers in conference proceedings, and 35 abstracts in international conference proceedings, including 24 contributions with own oral presentation. She was a member of the Fiscal Board of SPMicros (Sociedade Portuguesa de Microscopia), biennium 2018-2019 and supervised six M.Sc. works since 2011.
