Ana Pais is a performing arts researcher at Centro de Estudos de Teatro at the University of Lisbon/FLUL (as well as collaborator of INET-MD and ICNOVA), dramaturge and curator. She is the author of Discourse of Complicité. Contemporary Dramaturgies (Colibri 2004) and Affective Rhythms in the Performing Arts (Colibri 2018) as well as editor of Performance na Esfera Pública (2017, Orfeu Negro) and its online version in English available at www.performativa.pt. She holds a PhD in theatre studies from the University of Lisbon, during which period she was visiting scholar at PUC-São Paulo and at the Performance Studies Department (NYU), as well as a Master in Contemporary Dramaturgies from the same University. She was also visiting scholar at McGill, Canada (2016 and 2019) as well as UFBA, Brazil, while researching for her current project ¿Practices of Feeling¿. She has been participating in national and international conferences and symposia as well as publishing articles in academic journals since 2000. Between 2003 and 2004, she has worked as theatre critic in the most distinguished Portuguese newspapers (Público and Expresso) as well as she has engaged as a dramaturge in both theatre and dance projects in Portugal. From 2005 to 2010, she was assistant professor at Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema (Lisbon) and, in 2009 and 2015, she was guest assistant professor at the University of Évora. She curated, coordinated and produced various discursive practice events, such as: Indirecções Generativas ¿ baldio (co-curation; 2013), O Poder dos Afectos Lecture Series (Culturgest, February 2015), Dirty Ear Forum artistic residency (Lisbon, 2015), Projecto P! Performance na Esfera Pública (Lisbon, April 2017). The latter consisted of a Performance Festival, an International Conference and Publications for the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Conferência Futurista, by Portuguese artist Almada Negreiros. In 2019, she organized the international conference and workshop In the Flow and was part of the scientific committee of II EASTAP conference, in Lisbon.
