I graduated in Environmental Engineering at the University of Aveiro in 1996. I got my PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) in 2003 on the research topic of "Mixing Mechanisms in Reaction Injection Moulding" (RIM). After my PhD, I was Post-Doc for one year in an industrial project on the rheology of Self-Compacting Concrete. From 2004 to 2006, I lectured courses on the design of water and wastewater treatment plants at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo. Since 2006, I have been a Research Assistant at LSRE-LCM Associated Laboratory in the field of mixing in chemical and biological reactors. One of my main interests is product development and chemical reactors. I have worked on mixing in reactive polymerisation reactors since 1997, when I first came to LSRE. In 2013, I co-founded the spin-off company MICE-molds, taking to industry the main findings of the research on Reaction Injection Moulding (RIM) at the LSRE-LCM. I have been researching mixing in opposed jets and in NETmix reactors in single-phase and multiphase flow for chemical and environmental applications within the scope of several collaborative projects. I have over 50 papers, six patented technologies, and over 100 conference communications, and I supervised or co-supervised 10 concluded PhD theses, 27 MSc theses and four Poc-Doctoral projects. Currently, I am supervising/co-supervising 6 PhD students. I am leading at the Chemical Engineering Department in FEUP, an industrial project on reactive extrusion for footwear (BioShoe4all), and I am the co-PI of a project for the production of green ammonia and am leading CFD tasks in two industrial projects for the packing industry and the energy transition agenda. The main focus of his activity is the development of industrial technologies for chemical industries and environmental applications.
