José Mirão graduated in Geology from the University of Lisbon and obtained a PhD and Habilitation in Geology from the University of Évora. He is currently the Director of the HERCULES Laboratory, responsible for several Earth Sciences and Archaeology courses, and a full Professor of the Geosciences Department of the School of Sciences and Technology of the University of Évora. Specialist in Cultural Heritage Materials, Mineralogy, Geochemistry and Solid-state analytical techniques (e.g. XRF, XRD, SEM-EDS, LA-ICP-MS, optical microscopy), his main areas of research have included the study of Earth Materials (i.e. sediments, soils, natural stone and ore deposits), historical mortars and renders, archaeological ceramics, glasses and ancient tile glazes. He is a co-author of more than 190 Scopus peer-reviewed research papers (http://orcid.org/0000-0003-0103-3448 ) and editor of two books. He has extensive experience in coordinating collaborative projects, including between academia and industry (track record: > 10Meuros), and has had a significant impact on the career of young researchers, acting as supervisor and co-supervisor for several PhD and master's students.
